Is your website mobile-friendly? If you don’t know you can go here and run a tool to find out. Here’s a good reason to convert now.
Google announced recently that search engines will be ‘mobile first’ soon. This means that Google’s search results will be based on the mobile version of your pages, not the desktop version. You know that page that shows up after you do a search … where you want to come up on page one? Yep, that’s the place.
What does this mean to you?
Because mobile searches have now passed the 50% point Google wants to provide relevant results to the majority of searchers. Google will index web pages as mobile devices see them and rank them accordingly.
What if your mobile site is a mini version of your desktop site?
You need to make sure your mobile pages have enough content to rank well. A set of buttons or just a contact page isn’t going to cut it any more. If that’s all you have your rank may drop with this new indexing strategy.
What if you don’t have a mobile site?
Obviously, I’m going to recommend that you have a new one built! But in the meantime, be assured that your site will be indexed by Google just the same. Just remember it is their policy that if you don’t have a mobile site it won’t come up on mobile searches so you’re losing out on more than 50% of all searches … and that’s a significant amount of traffic!
